Pregnancy Accommodations
Sidebar
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that requires universities receiving federal funding to provide reasonable accommodations to students who are pregnant or have pregnancy-related conditions. This includes pregnancy, prenatal doctor appointments, childbirth, false pregnancy, miscarriage, termination of pregnancy, or recovery from any of these conditions.
In 2019, the University of Louisville Board of Trustees adopted the UofL Pregnancy Policy , reiterating the University's commitment to upholding Title IX.
Under Title IX and the UofL Pregnancy Policy, pregnant and/or parenting students are entitled to reasonable accommodations as long as medically necessary. The purpose of the Title IX and Dean of Students Offices is to provide pregnant and/or parenting students with equal access to educational programs and activities while honoring the academic integrity of the learning environment.
Each student has different needs, and each student’s situation is reviewed individually and evaluated on a case-by-case basis in collaboration with the student and the faculty.
Please use this form to request course modifications due to a pregnancy and/or pregnancy-related condition. Upon receipt of your request, the Dean of Students Office will contact you via your UofL email to provide additional information about your rights under Title IX and the next steps.
