Financial Hardship Fund Application
The Center for Military-Connected Students’ Financial Hardship Fund assists military-connected University of Louisville students who encounter unforeseen financial hardship. The fund’s goal is to help military-connected students during a time of need stay in school and make progress towards a degree. Priority will be given to students whose tenure at UofL may be at risk. Receiving funding from the Hardship Fund may affect student financial aid packages.
- These funds are not intended to be used for routine expenses. Requests must be of a hardship nature.
- This funding is not intended to replace or supplement existing financial aid and does not have to be repaid.
- The number of students who can be served by this fund is subject to the availability of funds.
- The maximum award amount is $1,000 per receipt; students can receive this award up to 2 times during enrollment.
- Tuition and fees.
- Medications and other costs related to medical care.
- Books and other essential academic expenses.
- Safety needs (e.g., having a lock changed).
- Assistance with replacement of essential personal belongings due to fire, theft, or natural disaster.
- Travel costs related to a death or illness in the immediate family.
- Assistance with rent, utilities, food, and other essential household expenses.
- Non-essential utilities (e.g., subscription services), household, or furniture costs not related to damage or theft.
- Parking tickets and university fines.
- Costs for entertainment, recreation, non-emergency travel, or non-essential expenses.
- Applicants must be a currently enrolled, military-connected (Active-Duty member, Reserve Member, National Guard member, Veteran, or dependent of one of the above) student at the University of Louisville.
- Must be in good academic standing at the University of Louisville during the term when the emergency funds are applied.
- Must have unexpected financial hardship, substantiated with supporting documentation.
- Must complete all questions in full and submit supporting documentation.
- Submit the application form on this page, including supporting documentation (e.g., bills, receipts, legal notices all in one file)
- In (10) business days CFMCS staff makes award determination. Applicants may be required to meet with CFMCS staff to discuss the application.
- CFMCS staff coordinates posting of award to the students University of Louisville account for disbursement and notifies Student Financial Aid Office.
- Any unpaid balance on the student’s university account will be deducted from any monies awarded through the Hardship Fund.
- Please note, if you are currently receiving financial aid, be aware that receiving funding from the Hardship Fund may impact your financial aid package.
- Students may only receive two Hardship Fund disbursements during enrollment.
