Know the Field 

Physicians are considered frontline medical workers. They examine patients and gather medical history. Physicians order diagnostic test, prescribe medication, provide preventative care. They may specialize; they may work solo or in a group practice setting. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredits training programs in 133 specialties and subspecialties, and the American Board of Medical Specialties represents 24 board-certified specialties (with many sub-specialties within each of these major specialties). Examples include: anesthesiology, dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiation oncology, sports medicine and surgery.
