About the program

Students who participate in the program will be given the opportunity to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge of advanced Algebra topics, which are the foundation of all engineering courses.
  • Review material and prepare for the first few homework assignments and exams in Speed Engineering Calculus (ENGR 100 or ENGR 101) courses.
  • Work at their own pace and finish the program early once all lessons have been mastered.
  • Potentially switch from ENGR 100 to 101 at the end of program participation.*

What are the advantages of the Speed Calculus Preview Program?

We’ve teamed up with Speed Engineering faculty to create a program that targets the math you actually need. By using the same software you'll encounter in your ENGR 100-201 sequence, we help you eliminate the guesswork and walk into your first lecture ready for the first day.
98%

of students who completed the program last year significantly improved their results on diagnostic tests

77%

of students who completed the Calculus Preview Program last year passed their first calculus course with a C or higher

How does it work?

This program is offered online from July 6 – July 31, 2026. Students will work independently using a browser-based program, MyLabs, on their computers. They must stay on schedule and complete all homework assignments and tests at an 80% mastery level. A program facilitator will monitor student progress and be available to answer student questions during scheduled office hours or within 24 hours. The REACH Math Resource Center will provide free online tutoring support.

What is the cost?

  • $50 - REACH Calculus Preview Program fee. The program free will be applied to the student's fall account if participating (i.e. you sign up for the program and complete an assignment).
  • $200 approximately - Participants are also required to pre-purchase the software used for ENGR courses, a MyLabs Software subscription, costing approximately $200 (24-month access).

It was really good to brush up on algebra concepts I never really understood in high school.

I liked this course. I had some nerves going into calculus but now I am feeling a lot more confident.

*Students who complete the Calculus Preview Program may be able to improve their score on the Accuplacer. EArnign an Accuplacer score of AAF 276 or higher would allow them to skip ENGR 100 and begin in ENGR 101.

UofL Testing Services offers Accuplacer testing opportunities for a free onsite and one.

Students in the Calculus Preview Program must stay on schedule and complete all homework assignments and tests at an 80% mastery level. If a student procrastinates on assignments and is not self-motivated, that student may not be successful in this summer review program.
