Academic Coaching
Academic coaching is a service for students who want to improve their academic and self-management skills, such as time management, organization, test taking and other study skills.
REACH offers academic coaching to help students achieve their academic goals along with self-advocacy and independent, life-long learning. The plan and content of each individual coaching session is determined by the student and the coach to identify the student's unique learning strengths, develop individual plans for academic support, and promote self-confidence and independence. All undergraduate students at the University of Louisville are eligible to participate in Academic Coaching. All sessions are conducted by appointment and are confidential.

Fixed/Growth Mindset
An Academic Coach will help you shift from a fixed mindset, where abilities feel limited, to a growth mindset. You'll learn to embrace challenges, view effort as a path to success and develop the resilience needed for continuous academic and personal growth.
Time Management
In a session focused on Time Management, your Academic Coach will help you identify priorities, create a balanced schedule and develop strategies to avoid procrastination. You’ll learn how to stay organized and make the most of your study time.
Test Taking
In a Test-Taking and Anxiety session, your Academic Coach will guide you in preparing effectively for exams, managing test anxiety and building confidence. You’ll learn techniques for staying calm, focused and performing your best under pressure.
Life Skills
In a Life Skills session, your Academic Coach will help you develop essential skills like goal-setting, decision-making and time management. You'll learn strategies for balancing academics with personal life, building resilience and fostering self-care habits.
Goal Setting
In a Goal Setting session, your Academic Coach will help you define clear, achievable goals and create a step-by-step plan to reach them. You’ll learn how to track progress, stay motivated and adjust your approach as needed for long-term success.
Using the Study Cycle
In a Study Cycle session, your Academic Coach will guide you through an effective learning process, including previewing material, engaging in focused study sessions and reviewing. You'll develop habits to retain information and enhance your academic success.
Note-taking
In a Note-Taking session, your Academic Coach will guide you in mastering effective strategies, from organizing information to identifying key points. You’ll learn how to take clear, structured notes that enhance understanding and make studying more efficient.
Textbook Reading
In a Textbook Reading session, your Academic Coach will help you develop effective techniques for engaging with complex texts. You'll learn how to preview, annotate and summarize key information, enhancing comprehension and retention for better academic performance.
