2024-2025 Executive Summary
During the 2024-2025 academic year, UofL saw increased levels of engagement from our undergraduate student body compared to the first couple of years following the pandemic. REACH accomplishments reflect the unwavering commitment from our team in serving the undergraduate body and contributing in critical ways to student success, retention, and graduation. Below is a snapshot of important metrics that were achieved.
- REACH participants continue to achieve higher retention and graduation rates compared to non-participants.
- Cohort analyses continuously demonstrate that students utilizing REACH tutoring achieve higher cumulative GPAs, retention rates, and graduation rates compared to non-users (all statistically significant)
- Generated $5,043,347 in tuition revenue via our intervention courses (GEN 103, 104 and 105); an increase of $150,194 over last year
- Received $15,000 from KY CPE, $65,000 from Gheens Foundation, and $25,000 from Canon to fully fund Math Xcelerator summer bridge for 76 students; 92% were retained from fall 2024 to spring 2025
- 89% of Brown Forman Engineering Academy “completers” (40 of 45) passed their first math class (76% earned an A, B, or C)
- Served 74.5% of the 2024 cohort through REACH services (nearly identical to the 2023 cohort at 74.7%)
- Served 5,072 unique students compared to 4,744 last year (+6.9%)
- Provided 93,472.5 hours of academic support and instruction (+2.6% increase from 2023-24AY with 91,100 hours)
- Students utilizing REACH tutoring 6+ hours had an average cumulative GPA of 3.24 compared to a 2.9 for those who did not utilize tutoring services (p.9, Figure 5)
- REACH was awarded the coveted Learning Center of Excellence designation by the International College Learning Center Association; only the 8th center awarded this worldwide
Clearly, the critical academic support and retention initiatives offered by REACH continue to positively impact students’ course grades, cumulative GPA, retention rates, and graduation rates. Year after year, students who take full advantage of REACH significantly outperform non-users. Furthermore, these services are invaluable in helping us counteract the effects of the pandemic, as well as meet the university’s 21st Century Initiative and contribute to our performance-based funding model.
