The University Honors Program Etscorn Scholarship recognizes and supports exceptional Honors students who demonstrate academic excellence, meaningful engagement in the Honors community and commitment to educational growth. This competitive scholarship provides financial assistance to help outstanding undergraduates continue their transformative Honors experience.
Scholarship Benefits
Etscorn Scholarship awards generally range from $1,000 to $2,500, providing valuable support for tuition and university expenses. Recipients join a select community of high-achieving Honors students who exemplify academic distinction and program involvement.
Please note: Etscorn Scholarships are competitively renewable and require annual reapplication, ensuring continued excellence and engagement.
To qualify for this scholarship, students must meet all of the following criteria:
- Completed at least 12 credit hours at the University of Louisville by the end of fall semester
- Currently enrolled full-time or part-time at UofL
- Planning full-time enrollment for at least the semester following the award
- Pursuing first undergraduate degree
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.35 (including UofL courses and transfer work)
- Not currently holding another full-tuition scholarship (such as full-tuition Trustees, Vogt, Porter, Grawemeyer, McConnell, MLK or other full-tuition awards)
Out-of-state students are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Etscorn Scholarship seeks dedicated Honors students who have embraced the full Honors experience. Ideal candidates demonstrate:
- Outstanding academic performance and intellectual growth
- Active participation in Honors coursework and programming
- Meaningful engagement in campus and community activities
- Clear educational goals and vision for continued excellence
- Leadership within the Honors community
This scholarship welcomes applications from all eligible students who exemplify the values and academic standards of the University Honors Program.
When applications reopen in 2026, scholarship awards will be based on the strength of:
- Academic transcript - demonstrating consistent excellence
- Personal statement - articulating goals and Honors impact (maximum two pages)
- Honors involvement record - showcasing curricular and extracurricular engagement
- Two letters of recommendation - submitted directly by recommenders
When the program reopens, complete applications must include all four components submitted via email to both honors@louisville.edu and luke.buckman@louisville.edu:
- Unofficial transcript (PDF format) showing all coursework including most recent grades
- Summary of Honors involvement (PDF or Word format)
- Personal statement addressing educational goals and scholarship impact (PDF or Word format)
- Two recommendation letters submitted through the online web form
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the selection committee.
