REACH
The Disability Resource Center does not provide direct tutoring but does work closely with other units to assure that University tutoring services are accessible to students with disabilities.
Tutoring at the University of Louisville is provided by REACH (Resources for Academic Achievement). In addition to tutoring, REACH offers Academic Coaching, Peer Assisted Learning (PAL), Structured Learning Assistance (SLA), academic workshops, and on-line resources.
Generally, REACH offers scheduled tutoring in small groups or offers drop-in tutoring in a lab environment. For students who have a disability-related reason that group tutoring for a specific class is not effective, REACH will attempt to provide an individual tutoring appointment and 1.5x time for content courses that are identified as REACH-supported. To inquire about availability of this additional support, DRC students may show their accommodation letter for the course to REACH professional staff in the Learning Resource Center (BAB 250), Math Resource Center (BAB 241), or Ekstrom Tutoring Center (1st Floor Ekstrom Library) to demonstrate their eligibility, or may contact their coordinator to request an email referral to REACH if they prefer not to share this letter.
If students require any accommodations in order to participate in REACH programming, they should contact their coordinator to make these requests. ASL interpreting accommodations may be scheduled using the American Sign Language Interpreter Request Form, which should be completed at least one week in advance whenever possible.
IMPORTANT: REACH may not be able to provide an individual tutoring for all REACH-supported courses depending on time of day and tutor availability. In addition, REACH cannot provide academic support for students enrolled in non-REACH supported courses. REACH tutoring is not available for all content areas or for all classes.
Remember that tutoring services are designed to supplement your learning. Benefit will occur only if you use this resource responsibly.
Writing Center
The Disability Resource Center does not provide direct support with writing, but does work closely with the Writing Center to ensure that services are accessible to students with disabilities.
The University Writing Center serves everyone in the UofL community, including undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff. They can help at any point in the writing process, from getting started with an idea, to working on a first draft, to revision and copyediting. They are not an editing service, but can help you become a better writer. The Writing Center supports the UofL community by offering Resources for Students, which include Writing FAQs, handouts, workshops, and 1-on-1 appointments.
Generally, the Writing Center offers up to 3 scheduled 1-on-1 appointments per week in a lab environment. For students who have a disability-related reason that the lab space is not conducive, the Writing Center will conduct your consultation in one of the side rooms if available. For students who have a disability-related need for an additional appointment during the week (4 total) or express a need for a back-to-back appointment, the Writing Center will attempt to provide this additional support. Students can decide which support would best serve them, as these are not to be used in combination (i.e., students can request either one extra appointment or one back-to-back appointment). To inquire about the availability of this additional support, DRC students may show their accommodation letter for the course to the Writing Center professional staff in Ekstrom Library 132 to demonstrate their eligibility, or may contact their coordinator to request an email referral to the Writing Center if they prefer not to share this letter.
If students require any accommodations to participate in Writing Center programming, they should contact their coordinator to make these requests. ASL interpreting accommodations may be scheduled using the American Sign Language Interpreter Request Form, which should be completed at least one week in advance whenever possible. Please see the Writing Center Accessibility and Accommodations page for more information.
IMPORTANT: The Writing Center may not be able to provide an additional or back-to-back appointment depending on the time of day and consultant availability.
Remember that the Writing Center is available to supplement your learning. The benefit will occur only if you use this resource responsibly.
