Get Involved with SGA

Sidebar

SGA prides itself in being the voice of the student body. Our hope is that each student is represented through SGA and has the opportunity to contribute in some capacity. There are many ways to get involved in Student Government:

  • First year students can apply to be a part of our Task Force Freshmen or Freshmen LEAD programs. These groups foster leadership skills by preparing students for roles in student government and getting them involved in community service.
  • Get involved in a student council through your college and have a direct impact on events and initiatives that affect students like you.
  • Apply to be a member of Cards in Action, UofL’s student lobbying group that travels to Frankfort to meet with state legislators in order to initiate policy change.
  • Attend political speaking engagements on campus to learn about the current political climate on and around UofL’s campus.
  • Volunteer through the Engage Lead Serve Board.
  • Attend an event or program put on by the Student Activities Board.
  • Apply to serve on a committee through SAB or ELSB to help plan events and initiatives.
  • All students have the opportunity to run in the General Election for a position in the Student Senate, Top Four, or to be the President or Vice President of their college.
  • All Senate meetings are live streamed on the SGA Facebook page and are also open to the public. Stop in to hear recent legislation and updates on general SGA affairs.

The Dale T. Adams Student of the Month Award was created to recognize a student who has made an outstanding contribution to the University of Louisville community.

Each month, students are nominated and then one is selected by the SGA Academic Policy Board to be recognized as the Student of the Month. This student will receive a red parking pass located behind the Red Barn for one month, a certificate, and a few other goodies!

To be eligible, you must meet all of the requirements below:

  • Must be enrolled full time at the University of Louisville
  • Cannot be an employee of Student Government including but not limited to the SGA president, SGA vice presidents, SGA staff, SGA senator, council president, council vice president, student justice, and paid SAB member.
  • Have not been a Student of the Month in the past academic year

Cards in Action

Cards in Action brings students together from all over the Commonwealth and the nation to lobby in Frankfort and D.C. for issues like higher education affordability, the insurance of equal education, fair academic standards, and federal funding. Issues that affect the student body are issues that matter to Cards in Action. As a group, we work together to meet with Legislators and advocate on behalf of the Student Body. Our mission is to bring light to the needs of the Students at the University of Louisville, and inform our legislators of those needs.

This year’s plans include hosting advocacy days in Frankfort during the General Assembly, bringing candidates to campus to speak about issues affecting students and the nation and a lobbying trip to in Washington D.C. SGA utilizes this group of highly dedicated students to represent the interests of the Student body and push change that students deserve in all sectors of government.

There are no specific political affiliation requirements, but an interest in government and issue-based advocacy is highly recommended in order to participate.
