From Enlisted to Officer

Whether you choose the Active Duty or Non-Scholarship option, Green to Gold provides a clear path to advance your military career while completing your education.

Program Options

Active Duty Option

The Active Duty option allows you to maintain your current military status while focusing on your education. You'll continue receiving your regular pay and allowances for up to 24 months, plus keep valuable benefits like your Montgomery G.I. Bill and Army College Fund. This option is perfect for soldiers who want to maintain their active duty benefits while pursuing their commission.

Non-Scholarship Option

Our Non-Scholarship option offers flexibility and additional opportunities for service members. During the academic year, you'll receive a monthly stipend of $420 and can participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). Through SMP, you can serve in a Reserve or Guard unit while completing your ROTC requirements, earning E-5 pay and gaining valuable leadership experience.

Eligibility and Requirements

To join the Green to Gold program, you'll need to meet several core requirements. As a U.S. Citizen with at least 2 years of active duty service, you must maintain high standards of performance and academic achievement. Your GT score should be 110 or higher, and you'll need to demonstrate physical fitness by passing the APFT with a score of 180 or above, including minimum scores of 60 points in each event.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Age requirements (under 31 at commissioning, waivers available)
  • Minimum GPA requirements (2.5 for Active Duty, 2.0 for Non-Scholarship)
  • Clean record free of domestic violence convictions
  • No more than 3 dependents (waivers available)

The Application Process

The journey to becoming a Green to Gold candidate requires careful preparation and documentation. You'll need to secure acceptance from both your chosen university and its Army ROTC program. Your application package must include:

  • Letters of acceptance from the university and ROTC program
  • Chain of Command recommendation
  • Current DODMERB medical qualification
  • Favorable National Agency Check
  • Proof of reenlistment eligibility
