The Cadet Experience at UofL

Your journey as an Army ROTC cadet at the University of Louisville combines academic excellence, leadership development, and a vibrant campus life. As part of our Cardinal Battalion, you'll join a community of future leaders while pursuing your degree and preparing for an exciting career as an Army officer.

Daily Life as a Cadet

At UofL, we've designed our ROTC program to complement your academic pursuits. You'll participate in early morning physical training three days a week, attend military science classes, and join weekly leadership labs. These structured activities help develop your leadership skills while leaving plenty of time for your academic studies, campus activities, and personal life.

Beyond regular training, cadets engage in color guard presentations, community service projects, and military formal events that build professional etiquette and networking skills. Through our mentorship program, you'll connect with experienced officers and senior cadets who guide your development, while leadership positions within the battalion provide hands-on experience in personnel management and decision-making.

Housing Options

Army ROTC Living Learning Community (LLC)

The ROTC Living Learning Community offers a unique residential experience where you'll live and learn alongside fellow cadets. This dynamic environment fosters strong bonds, provides built-in study groups, and creates lasting friendships. Living in the LLC means you're always connected to training activities and support resources while enjoying a traditional college residential experience.

Army ROTC Departmental Scholarship

The University of Louisville Army ROTC Department offers additional departmental scholarships to eligible contracted cadets. These scholarships are awarded each semester and are separate from national and campus-based Army ROTC scholarships.

Eligible cadets may receive up to $3,000 per semester ($6,000 per academic year) based on academic performance, Army Fitness Test performance, attendance, ROTC standing, and other eligibility requirements. Scholarship amounts are subject to the availability of departmental funds.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a University of Louisville student
  • Be a contracted Army ROTC cadet
  • Be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours
  • Maintain the required GPA for the applicable scholarship level
  • Remain in good standing with Army ROTC
  • Meet applicable academic, attendance, fitness, and Army requirements

Green to Gold Active Duty Option and Completion Cadets are not eligible for this departmental scholarship.

Award levels are based on established eligibility and performance criteria and the availability of funds.
