The Journey to 50 Years
1976 – Creation of the Division of Student Affairs and hiring of Dr. Ed Hammond as the 1st Vice President for Student Affairs at UofL
1979 – Joni Burke hired as the first staff member to work exclusively with Greek Life
1980 – The Red Barn hosted the ABC Live Television Show “Friday Night Live at the Kentucky Derby"
1985 – Establishment of the Red Barn Alumni Association (RBAA) and the RBAA student scholarships program
1985 – Hosted the first annual Crawfish Boil
1988 – Dennis Golden hired as Vice President for Student Affairs
1990 – Opening of the Student Activities Center (SAC)
1991 – Dedication of Harold Adams Way
1992 – NPHC established as a formal group at UofL
1994 – 25-year anniversary of the Red Barn
1995 – Office of Civic Engagement, Leadership, and Service established
1996 – Denise Gifford selected as Vice President for Student Affairs
1997 – International Service Learning Program (ISLP) established
1999 – HSC Fitness Center opened
2002 – 50-year anniversary of the UofL Student Government Association (SGA)
2003 – Greek row street renamed Unity Place
2005 – Michael Cuyjet selected as interim Vice President for Student Affairs
2007 – Tom Jackson hired as Vice President for Student Affairs
2007 – Dedication of the Red Barn as the George J. Howe Red Barn
2010 – TRIO Student Support Services established
2010 – Engage Lead Serve Board (ELSB) established
2010 – Establishment of the Bornwasser Student Emergency Fund
2011 – Opening of the outdoor SAC West Plaza
2012 – 75-year anniversary of the Fryberger Greek Sing
2012 – 75-year anniversary of Housing & Residence Life
2013 – 40-year anniversary of Counseling Center
2013 – Opening of the Student Recreation Center
2013 – 85-year anniversary of Intramural & Recreational Sports
2014 – Michael Mardis selected as Vice Provost for Student Affairs
2015 – 45-year anniversary of Department of Student Activities (Student Involvement)
2016 – Groundbreaking for expansion and renovation of Student Activities Center
2016 – 95-year anniversary of Greek Life at UofL
2016 – 70-year anniversary of UofL crowning a Homecoming Queen & King
2016 – 50-year anniversary of the UofL Student Activities Board (SAB)
2016 - 40th anniversary of the Division of Student Affairs
2019 – Cardinal Cupboard opens
2020 – George Howe retires from UofL – 50 years of service
2020 - Pam Curtis retires from UofL 34 years of services
2021 - Commonwealth Credit Union gift for Cardinal Cupboard
2021 - 100th anniversary of Greek Life
2022 – 70th anniversary of Student Government Association
2023 - 95th anniversary of Intramural & Recreational Sports
2026 - Division of Student Affairs 50th Anniversary
