Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dr. Michael Mardis initiated a series of strategic leadership decisions to elevate student well-being as a central priority at the University of Louisville. These actions created an Assistant Vice President for Student Well-being role, initiated the hiring of three new highly qualified department leaders, aligned key health and wellness departments under the AVP for Student Well-being, committed UofL to being a JED campus, expanded and fostered mental health services on the HSC campus, and invested in facility improvements that co-locate Counseling and Campus Health services for students. Additionally, Dr. Mardis temporarily assigned University Housing and the Resident Experience (UHRE) to report to the AVP for Student Well-being to facilitate the integration of well-being into the residential experience. This collection of strategic decisions cultivated and energized the creation of the Student Well-being Initiative branded as BeWellUofL.
